Pandemic Guidelines

Covid Related Operating Restrictions

Effective August 26, 2020 through the 2020 Fall Semester:

The Innovation Hub Team appreciates your continued patience and understanding during the pandemic. The Innovation Hub managers and staff will do their best to meet all project, course and research needs this semester. However, in order to comply with all applicable pandemic guideline requirements, the Innovation Hub will function in a closed mode with shop managers, Josh Bintrim and Kelsey Crawford available to complete projects as detailed below. If you have specific needs or time frames, it is critical to communicate that information well in advance of your production deadline. All projects must start through an iLab request.

General Hub Rules in Effect for Fall Semester 2020

  • Card access to all Innovation Hub doors will be limited and doors will remain locked.
  • Drop-ins will be restricted; any question and/or consultations must be scheduled beforehand.
  • The Innovation Hub staff reserves the right to ask individuals to leave the facility if safety rules are not being observed, including all WVU COVID-19 and Statler College safety guidelines.
  • The University has defined the reduced capacities for the Innovation Hub, e.g., G85 is limited to 16 people.
  • Any tours of the Innovation Hub spaces must be scheduled through Innovation Hub management; no drop-in tours will be permitted. Please schedule tours at least three days in advance.
  • All users must bring their own pair of approved safety glasses to be allowed to use the Innovation Hub.
  • Backpacks must remain with students when working in the shop.
  • Access to the Innovation Hub and equipment must be scheduled and cancelled through iLab.
  • The Innovation Hub staff will operate the equipment to complete jobs through iLab service requests, unless training has been completed previously and they approve the job.
  • Equipment will not be available for training during the semester.
  • 3D printing jobs must be scheduled, and no drop-in jobs can be accommodated.
  • All job pickups must be scheduled with Innovation Hub staff ahead of time.
  • Group project work must be stored outside of the Innovation Hub and project boxes brought in when used.
  • Final project work will be tested in the Innovation Hub if necessary, one group at a time.
  • ALL WVU guidelines must be observed, including social distancing, masks and shields.

Innovation Hub Classroom Access for Fall Semester 2020

  • The computer lab in G85 will not be accessible during the fall semester for teaching classes due to required personal spacing requirements.
  • GTAs must be present when students are performing class related work. No work outside of class related work will be allowed during the fall semester.
  • Project and work needs will be done by the Innovation Hub staff. Schedule through iLab.
  • Innovation Hub users must wear safety glasses when running equipment. WVU always requires that all personnel wear masks.
  • Students and users are responsible for thoroughly cleaning equipment when finished, and instructors and TA’s are responsible for ensuring this task is completed appropriately.
  • Hot works will not be available for class use during the fall semester (e.g., IE 303). Job requests need to be discussed with Innovation Hub personnel.
